Beijing-Datong-Taiyuan-Pingyao-Xi'an

Day 01: Beijing/ Datong
Take afternoon train to Datong. Meet and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Datong Morning
refresh before we start the tour to Yungang Grottoes, with their 252 caves and 51,000 statues, the grottoes represent the outstanding achievement of Buddhist cave art in China in the 5th and 6th centuries. The Five Caves created by Tan Yao, with their strict unity of layout and design, constitute a classical masterpiece of the first peak of Chinese Buddhist art; afterwards we will visit the Huayan Monastery. Built during the Liao Dynasty (907 - 1125), is the largest and best-preserved monastery of the Liao Dynasty in existence in China. Then go to the Nine Dragons Screen, built over 600 years ago, it is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China today.

Day 03: Datong/Taiyuan
Drive to Taiyuan. On the way, visit Yingxian Wooden Pagoda and Hanging Temple. The Hanging Temple was built during 386-534AD, and restored in 1900 and there are 40 wooden halls and structures linked by an ingenious system of pillars, posts and walkways. Yingxian Wooden Pagoda was built in 1056 and is the oldest wooden Buddhist pagoda in existence, this pagoda is a 9 story octagonal building and was constructed without using any nails. Arrive Taiyuan and check in to the hotel.

Day 04: Taiyuan/Pingyao
Drive to Pingyao ancient city, on the way, visit the Qiao Family's compound, a wealth of houses built long ago, which are representative of the wealth attained by the Shanxi Merchants. upon arrival at Pingyao, Overnight in Pingyao.

Day 05: Pingyao/Taiyuan
Free on your own to explore more about the Pingyao old town, which was constructed according to the traditional planning and building style of the Han ethnic group and was laid out according to the functions of its different parts. Four large streets, eight smaller ones, and 72 lanes made a neat grid. Symmetrically arranged along an axis, the private houses were constructed either in the style of courtyard houses or in the style of manmade-cave houses, all with local features. Today, richly decorated temples and shops are still scattered all over the town as past. These old buildings bring back a scene of the flourishing town of Pingyao during the Ming and Qing periods. Afternoon back to Taiyuan and visit the Jin Ancestral Temple. It was built in the Bei Wei Dynasty (386-534) in memory of Shuyu, the second son of Zhouwu kingdom. The temple is a famous garden of ancient buildings, in compound with hall, pavilions, and towers. The cypress, the long-life Spring and the painted clay figures of maids in the Saintly Mother's Hall are reputed as Jinci Temple's 'three wonders'.

Day 06: Taiyuan air Xi'an

Transfer to airport for the flight to Xi¡¯an.
