The Flaming Mountains lies 10 km east of Turpan city. The mountain was so called because it is red and extremely hot in summer, with the red sun overhead, it looks like a burning dragon. The average height of the mountains is 500m, but normally you cannot climb them, because the soles of your shoes will soften in the intense heat when you approaching the mountains.
