Shanghai Museum
As a museum of ancient Chinese art, Shanghai Museum now houses over 120,000 pieces of China's finest collections of cultural relics. This modern museum tells the story of Shanghai, with special attention to the colonial period from 1860 to 1949, when Shanghai was under European dominance. The building of Shanghai Museum standing 4 stories high is shaped like an ancient Chinese bronze cooking cauldron with four giant handles. The
Museum is famous for its well-designed galleries with marvelous bronzes, fine ceramics, sculptures, paintings and furniture. In addition, expect to see such unique items as Tibetan skulls and demon masks, as well as Emperor Qianlong's jade wine goblet. Captions of display are both in English and Chinese, and an 'acoustiguide' is recommended for a better learning experience. The museum tour takes about an hour; it ends at an unremarkable gift shop.
