The Bund
The Bund is an elevated walkway of 400 meters wide along the Huangpu River and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. The name was given by the British and derives from the Hindustani word band, meaning an artificial causeway or embankment. Walking along the Bund, which is at the west shore of the Huangpu River, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower can be seen on the opposite side and also the Jin Mao Tower. Most of the construction and decoration were imported like tons of rare italian marble. The architectural style range from neo-Grecian to Italian Renaissance and art deco. Today many of these buildings have changed owners and tenants. The Shanghai government continues to lease more office space on the Bund to financial institutions all over the world. Being one of the Top Ten Shanghai Attractions, the Bund is a really beautiful and special place that is worth visiting.
