Yamdrok Lake is located in between of the capital city Lhasa and the historic city Gyantse. It is one of the four holiest lakes in Tibet. Legend says that a fairy descending to the earth formed the bright turquoise blue lake. Its shores are made of slate pebbles, roamed by herds of tiny goats. The only sound in the air is the tinkling of the bells around their necks as they wander by. Yamdrok Lake is also a pilgrimage site - it is believed that its water restores youth, prolongs life and even makes children smarter.
