Hongcun Village ( aroud Hangzhou)
Hongcun Village, located near Huangshan Mountain in Anhui Province, still preserve several architectures built dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911).

The village is arranged in the shape of an ox: a nearby hill (Leigang Hill) is interpreted as the head and two trees standing on it mark the horns. Four bridges across the Jiyin stream can be seen as the legs and the houses of the village form the body. Inside the "body", the Jiyin stream can be seen as the intestines and the lakes - such as the "South Lake" (Nanhu) - as the stomachs.

All the buildings follow local architectural style, have exquisite carvings and are magnificent symbols of its time. They were built with fine craftsmanship that is regarded as the best in China. Among them, Chenzhi Hall is a big and gorgeous residential building, including two living rooms, one Buddhism prayer section, one Majiong room and a opium cabinet, etc. It enjoys the name of "Residence Museum".

Because of this extraordinary feature of the village, Hongcun Village was added to the listof the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in late 2000. It is also the location for the Oscar prize film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
