  Nanyue Museum and Royal Mausoleum

Nanyue Museum and Royal Mausoleum was the tomb of Nanyue King who ruled in Guangzhou in 200 BC. The relics of over 1,000 burial objects are on display. Highlighting the mausoleum is a silk-jade garment made up of 2,291 pieces of jade. Though jade garments with pieces connected by gold, silver, or copper are not uncommon, this garment with jade pieces connected by silk is the only one of its kind in the world. Nor are historical records available to verify other jade garments connected by silk thread. Also found were human sacrifices, concubines and servants buried alongside the king. English titles and videos are available.

 Shamian Island

Located on the north bank of the Pearl River¡¯s White Goose Pool, Shamian is an oval islet, covering a tiny area of 0.3 sq. meters. From the 18th to the mid 19th century, it is the only place where foreign traders were permitted to set up their warehouses and factories.

Shamian Island is also the reminder of Guangzhou¡¯s colonial history. It became a British and French concession after they won in the Opium Wars, and is covered with decaying colonial buildings, which housed trading offices and residences. Today many old buildings have been destroyed on the island. With its old charm almost gone, Shamian is still an interesting place for a leisurely walk.

 Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a key historical relic protected by Guangdong Province, is a memorial building built with the funds raised by the Guangzhou people and overseas Chinese in memory of Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the ROC. Located in the original site of the then Sun Yat-sen's Presidential Office, it was designed by Mr. Lu Yanzhi, the great architect of the country. Construction work started in 1929 and finished in 1931. The hall, a grand octagon building of typical Chinese architectural style, looks brand new because of reconstruction in 1998. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall will refresh you after visiting the bustling commercial metropolis and provide you with a moment to touch this great man in Chinese history.

 Chen Family Ancestral Temple

Located at 7 Zhongshan Road in Guangzhou, Chen Family Ancestral Hall was built between 1890 and 1894 during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing dynasty, and it is the largest, best preserved, and best decorated ancient architecture in Guangdong province. The temple was built to honor and worship family Chen¡¯s ancestors, and the money is donated by Chen's families in 72 counties of Guangdong Province as well as some overseas members of Family Chen.
Occupying an area of 15,000 sq m, Chen Family Ancestral Hall is composed of six courtyards, nine main halls, and nineteen buildings. With a traditional Guangdong style architecture, the temple is especially renowned for its beautiful decorations. The most impressive attractions in the temple are various superb carvings extolling nature. They are in the forms of wood, brick, pottery, stone, lime and things like that, of which woodcarving especially fully demonstrates the great achievements of the art of carving in Guangdong Province. Stories of historical celebrities and scenes are also vividly represented in the temple.
