Mt. Emei
Mount Emei is located in the mid-south part of Sichuan Province, the transitional belt from the Sichuan Basin to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. With the patron bodhisattva Samantabhadra, or Puxian in Chinese, Mt. Emei is one of the four sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. At 3,099 meters, Mt. Emei is more than 1,000 meters higher than the other three sacred mountains. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its breathtaking scenery, mysterious natural wonders, and historical Buddhist sites.

The first Buddhist temple in China was built here in the 1st century AD in the beautiful surroundings of the summit of Emei, and the addition of other temples in the surrounding areas in the following years turned the site into one of Buddhism's main sacred places. Situated in a junction area of various natural elements, Mount Emei possesses typical geological and topographical features, well preserved eco-environment; and thanks to its essential position as the junction and transition belt of world biology divisions, the area boasts rich plant and animal resources, has distinct regional characteristics, and is the home to many rare and threatened species. The Four Wonders of Mt. Emei are Buddha's Halo, the Sea of Clouds, the Holy Lamp (or Divine Lights) and the Golden Summit Sunrise. Best seen from Golden Summit monastery. Leshan, one hour from Emei's base, has world's largest Buddha statue. The main attractions include the Baoguo Temple (16th century, at the base), Fuhu Temple, Leiyin Temple. Mt. Emei is famous for its ancient temples, Emei style martial arts, wicked monkeys and pine forests. It is a world culture and nature heritage site.
